Why does it take so long for God to save a nation? Why does it take so long for a people to cry out to God? The nation-state is not always faithful to its nation-people. They use them then abuse them, tolerate them then exploit them: politically, economically, socially, and culturally. The people go through cycles of accommodation and rejection; prosperity and distress; opportunity and oppression, until they discover they cannot go it alone.
The strength of any people is displayed in their will to survive and the determination to save their own. But the freedom of that people begins when they look beyond themselves to the God of prophetic purpose. Then, to complete the task, requires the preparation of a leader and his obedience to the God of their salvation.
This is the dramatic narrative which is the text of our devotions in this month. As you meditate on the experience of the Israelite people, think of your own setting and the people you call your own. Think also of the nations in distress across the globe. What is your role in the midst of your community and nation? Are you a priestly intercessor, a prophetic voice of hope, or a princely leader? Remember, “The people who know their God shall be strong and do great exploits” (Dan.11:32) in 2022, “The Year of Kingdom Manifestation”.
This devotional exercise is for self-assessment, self-effacement, self-affirmation, self-determination and Kingdom application. As you meditate on the word, seek to apply it personally and practically to your daily life and to your vocational pursuits. You may share your reflections and testimony on the weekend.
