September to many is the beginning of things new. It is the new year in the Jewish calendar, and tradition claims it is the time of the creation of man and also of the world. For me personally, it was the month of my birth, and interestingly the beginning of the “Prayer Breakfast” in Jamaica signaling the birth of the charismatic renewal movement.
That same spirit must prevail in our devotions this month, reading from Malachi. It is a message of Promise, of Hope, of Covenant of Judgment and Separation. It demands a time of introspection, of personal and corporate stock-taking. It is a challenge to us as leaders to examine our heart, adjust our behavior and align ourselves to the Lord in a manner that will attract the unbelieving world to God.
Then we will spend much time in the Gospel of John, being lifted to a new dimension connecting with Him who is both the Beginning and the End. He offers us a new birth from above, shows love and mercy to the outcasts and engages with us, not only as “Servants” but as His covenant “Friends”. Let this month be for you a time of renewal, restoration, and new beginnings…. A September to remember!
