In this month we must examine the state of the Early Church as well the present Church today. First of all, Jesus is introduced as the “Alpha and the Omega”.  He will analyze whether each Church is failing or overcoming.  This is not just a message about the “end of time”. It is a measuring rod for the Church in every generation.  It is important that we measure our experience within our Church with that of any of the Churches described in these early chapters of the Text.

How is Israel an example for how we can make our Church an overcoming one? The answer is illustrated by Malachi. Here, God is introduced as the Father of the Nation whom the people have despised. The Priesthood is profane. Marriages and Families are in disarray. Fathers are not fulfilling their responsibility. Children are living as orphans. Equally so the people generally are unfaithful to God their Father by robing His House of their faithful giving. 

To restore the Nation, then and today, fathers must return to their children and children to their fathers, or else it will lead to the demise of the Nation. That is the message for us today as we seek to restore our nations under the governance of the Kingdom of God. And Jesus and His Father is the example in John 17, and so He prays that we too are reconciled to “Our Father who is in Heaven.”

This meditational exercise is for your own personal self-assessment, self-effacement, self-affirmation, self-determination, and Kingdom application. As you meditate on the Word, seek to apply it personally and practically to your daily life and to your vocational pursuits and ministerial witness.
