This Past Sunday, we heard a message from Mark 10:17-22 concerning the Rich Young Ruler. Jesus told the young man that he lacked ONE thing out of all of his piety in keeping The Law, and to go and sell all that he had, give to the poor, and take up his cross and follow Him. 

The young man went away grieved because he had great possessions. The thing that the young man lacked was “Lordship”. 

We can see that in his approaching Jesus, that he extravagantly respected Him as “Teacher” (vs17, 20) as he kneels before Him and asks a pivotal question. 

However, when given the requirements, he was unwilling to do what The Lord told him to do, which was to rid himself of the “ONE thing” that was holding him back from obtaining true riches and eternal life; his identity in riches. 

Each of us has to identify the “one thing” that is the way of truly making Jesus Lord and following Him with sincerity and truth. It may be your reputation, your identity, your career, your friend group, your habitual guilty pleasure, your ego, or something else. Whatever it is, rid yourself of it, so you can obtain the TRUE Life that CHrist Came to give.

Our Lord will not complete for 1st place in our lives, so we must be willing to rid ourselvs of it, or find ourselves a part from Him. 

Sunday, we did that. 

We identified the “one thing” that could be “A LOT” of things and deemed them done, complete, and finished before the Lord!

This week , I encourage you to discover that thing that you are unwilling to give up, that is keeping you from following Christ wholeheartedly.
